It Takes a Rebel to Change The World
Rebellion has brought us this far. A tribute to the Thai red shirts.
South Africa would not be what it is today were it not for Nelson Mandela’s rebellion, India wouldn’t be the power it is were it not for Mahatma Gandhi’s rebellion, China wouldn’t be where it is were it not for Mao Tse Tung saying no to imperialism.
History is replete with rebels. From Jesus to Galileo Galilei, from Vladimir Lenin to Martin Luther King junior, these are people who gave their all and swarm against the tide for the good of mankind.
While they risked their comfort to create a better world, while the braved the bullets sprayed upon them by apologists of the regimes of their time, the rest of us were tucked away in warm blankets but we still remember them and wonder how they were able to do it.
Their rebellion proved a good cause for all mankind. They learned to say no at the right time. They did not fear isolation by the rest of mankind, they did not fear crucifixion, imprisonment, torture and tear gas canisters, and they did not mind soiling their hands, for they really believed in a better life for the rest of us.
All of us can not be rebels, all of us can not move against the tide, but whatever little help those who rebel may need, let us endeavor to support them, and if we can not in any way support them, I wish that we remember them for what the good that we now enjoy.
Now is the time we spoke in support of the Thai red shirts, its time we recognized that one day we may be in their position however advanced our democracies maybe. These are rebels with a cause and I pray that justice be done in their land for it isn’t for nothing that they shed their precious blood.

I beg to differ here my friend Shilaho,I have been following the Thai unrest-I dont think society is politically re-engineered that way. Madibba had a cause-he did not drug the ANC to the streets the way the Thai Orange and Red shirted unruly protestors are doing. You will recall that two or so years ago, the Orange Party were awash on the streets,of the Thai capital causing mayhem and paralyzing Air transport, they actually removed an elected government unconstitutionally and installed their own. Now those in Red want to do the same to restore their former Prime Minister who the Orange shirts removed. Now we cannot turn the management of Society into a Political ping-pong like this because it will create a very dangerous precedent! ACTUALLY, I urge you to read my own opinion on this subject here:

Inspite of my view, I thought this was an interesting soul searching piece-thanks.

I came from a country which transformed the quo ‘d etat perspective into a people power rebellion. One is enough and two or three were certainly too much. Any form of power to the extent causes an upsurge. But I suppose non violent approach as showed by Jesus and Mahatma Gandhi and others in the category were worth the introspection.

Every now and then..society needs individuals who can make a drastic change. If it happens as a habit though, that’s when simple rebellion becomes a terrorist act.

Anything that changes a norm is rebellion. It takes guts to do it. It can be done in violent and non-violent forms. good share

The pen is mightier than the sword! Pen is a silent rebellion, but when one takes to the sword, its for sure a bloody mesh.
A timely share with the Thais, well done Jim!

I admire Mandela, a man who stayed imprisoned so long for what he believed in is a real hero, as of course others are.

Rebellion is good in the hands of the right person if he can make tactics that avoid violence.

I do not consider Jesus, Ghandi, or Martin Luther Kings as rebels. They were great individuals sending messages to the country (world) about peace, love, equality, and justice. Perhaps they were rebels in heart. Nevertheless, great article as always my friend =)
