Jfk vs.. Lbj

Just a Discussion Board I had to do for my class. I thought I would put it on here.

In compairing the administrations of John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Baines Johnson, it seems to me that LBJ was very capable as President. From the time right after his swearing in on Air Force One to when he said he would not seek the office of President of the United States in the 1968 election, very much was accomplished. JFK’s time was shortened by the assassination. Many of JFKs initiatives had failed in Congress comprised of the Conservative Coalition. JFK had presented us with the New Frontier and the next generation of rule by the people. LBJ gave us the Great Society and by his legislative intimidating and deal-making and determination he had success with the war on poverty, 1964 Economic Oppurtunity Act, jobs for youth,VISTA ( the domestic version of JFK’s peace corps), Community Action Programs, Head Start, Elementary, Secondary, and Higher Education, Medical Act 1965(Medicare), AFDC, HUD 1965, Immigration Act 1965( dealing with Latin American and Vietnamese refugees), Arts and Humanities, NPR( public radio), and Voting Rights Act 1965. He also kept us out of war conditions with Korea and with the Soviet Union( Czech Republic), recognizing that we were still very active in Vietnam. LBJ was very intelligent, acted with foresight, and had the power to get the work of a President done successfull
