Having been through a at least a hundred “camp axes” over the years, i asked myself, did Daniel Boone need a new axe every time he went to town? And really this is a valid question. What with advances in technology, why does a month old axe or hatchet “chip”,dent or break on its edge? Or any where for that matter. It falls to blame of modern fast/mass production methods, “cast” metals being the worst. The only way to get a blade or axe like Daniel Boone or even your own grand pa for that matter , is to find a artisan with the skills of the forge. There simply is no substitute for a hand forged axe made of quality material. Same with knives . Many outdoors men, of late have found, that the articles being made for reenactors fit the needs that that they have, in the great outdoors. I for one, have a hand forged axe, and knife. And while i have had some funny looks, pulling out what appears to be a authentic 1700’s period tomahawk, I’ve had no complaints from those I allowed to handle it. Same with the unassuming looking blade of a design relevant to the same period. If you are ready for a real axe, or knife, do look up, Kings Forge and Muzzle loading. Find them on Facebook.
