Lewis and Clark

During the 1800’s Lewis and Clark set out on an expedition that took them many places. I am going to tell you about how they dressed, what they ate, and how they cooked their food.

Lewis and Clark’s clothing was made of leather, buckskin, and elk skin. Lewis and Clark’s army clothes looked like this

These were made out of leather and loin cloth.

Bear grease was used for their boots so

they wouldn’t get wet, because

boots stiffen up when they dry.

The colors Lewis and Clark wore on

their uniform for the army were

red, dark blue, white, gold, and

maroon/ red like. Here is a pic-

ture of what their uniforms loo-

ked like.

They had accessories such as pouches made out of leather. These pouches were used to put gold, medals, and presents that the Indians gave them.

On the Lewis & Clark expedition Lewis & Clark ate a lot of things, but I will focus on one they ate. The hominy with bacon was one dinner they usually ate. It was easy to make, no supplies or food was needed. Lewis and Clark drank Taffia (rum distilled from coarse molasses), Whiskey (for celebration), and water (for an everyday drink). When they were done with dinner they usually had a dessert which was lemon pie (which was invented by Elizabeth Coane).

The utensils Lewis & Clark used on their expedition were spoons. forks, can openers, pans, knives, etc. The ingredients they used for the hominy with bacon was 4 strips of bacon, 1 medium onion, 1 can of white or yellow hominy, 1/8 teaspoon of salt, 1/8 teaspoon of ground black pepper.

In this essay I’ve told you much about Lewis and Clark and how they dressed, ate, and how they cooked their meals to stay alive. So Lewis and Clark did a lot of things on their expedition.
