Live Free or Die
Live free or die.
“Live Free or Die” is the official motto of the state of New Hampshire in the United States of America. It was adopted by New Hampshire in 1945. It’s possibly the best-known state motto in the country, mainly because it talks about an assertive independent history found in American philosophy and part of its differences to the sentiments found in some other mottos.
This motto originates from a toast written by General John Stark inn July of 1809. Sickness forced Stark, New Hampshire’s most brought up and brave soldier of the American Revolutionary War, to miss out on anniversary reunion of the Battle of Bennington and to send his saying by letter:
Live free or die: Death is not the worst of evils.
