Major events of World War One

 

Ø      1914 western front August 3rd war started with the invasion of Belgium.

o       June 28 Archduke Franz Ferdinand is assassinated.

o       September 5-10 a stalemate developed due to trench warfare.

o       Supplies quickly run out of both sides.

o       Attempts to out flank fail on both sides.

o       Race for sea by Germany fails.

o       Trenches quickly constructed.

o       Peace conferences fail

o       Re- supply of both sides keeps the war going.

o       August to September Russian forces are defeated at the battled in Tannenburg and Masurian lakes.

o       Tsar is advised that he must pull his troops out of World War One.

o       Ottoman Empire is attacked in a mid summers offensive by the allies to put Germanys ally out of the war.

 

Ø      1915 is characterized the year of trench warfare on the eastern front.

o       On the eastern front the armies of Germany and Austria attack Russia in a mid summer offensive to keep Russia out of the war on the eastern front.

 

Ø      1917-1918-1919

o       February 23rd revolution in Russia.

o       April 6th  The United States comes into WW1

o       24th Bolshevik revolution in Russia

o       January Lenin declares Bolshevik government in Russia. The Russia civil war begins.

o       January Wilsons 14 point plan is presented.

o       Kaisershlacht German offensive in Western front.

Peace negotiations begin in the treaty of Vers
