Michelle Obama a Target Shopper

That’s right, First Lady Michelle Obama got a chance to do what other housewives take for granted; shop at Target.  She spent 20 minutes walking the aisles of Target, pushing her own cart, relaxed and not bothered by the usual attention that comes with her station in life.

I wonder if anyone would have recognized Michelle Obama, casually dressed in a floral blouse over a top, with black pants; wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses.  I am sure anyone who thought for a second that they were looking at the wife of the President of the United States, probably would have dismissed it quickly; thinking that she surely wouldn’t be shopping at Target.  

The Target Store staff, in Alexandria, VA, just outside of Washington had no idea that Mrs. Obama would arrive.  Her Secret Service showed up 30 minutes before hand, dressed themselves casually.  Michelle Obama walked in through the front entrance with her assistant, shopped and checked out at 3:30 pm.  It was, then, that the cashier recognized her.  I can imagine that is a moment this cashier will never forget.

The only statement that Target has released about the incident is a bit whimsical tweet about the picture that captured Mrs. Obama shopping:  “First Lady Michelle Obama may be incognito but there is no denying those signature @Target red carts!”  I got a little chuckle when it was reported that it appears that the First Lady bought towels and cleaning supplies.  I can only imagine what she intends to do with those.  I just don’t see her cleaning the White House, but, being the dutiful wife and mother, I am sure she’d give it a try.
