An expansive compendium on terms from Modern Europe.
Young Plan- This reparation plan, written in 1929, replaced the Dawes Plan and lowered the total amount of reparations to be paid, along with an extended time period for payment
Yorkshire Association Movement- Rallied around the ideas of Wilkes, which included redrawing the districts of the House of Commons and cleaning out the corruption; convened during the Enlightenment in England
Zemstvos- Local governments that were established after serfs were freed in Russia; established in 1864; part of Alexander II’s reforms
Zeppelins- German aircrafts that were used to gather information about terrain and drop bombs on the British in WWI
Zimmerman Telegram- Germany promised Mexico that they would help to take back the lands that United States took, including Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona, if Mexico would attack the United States in WWI; caused President Wilson to declare war on Germany
Zinoviev Letter- Published by the Daily Mail, a London newspaper, under Ramsay MacDonald; written by the Zinoviev, the head of the Comintern, who told Communists in Britain to work towards a revolution of the proletariat; hurt the Labor Party
Zionism- 19th century movement begun by Herzel; goal was to form a state where Jews would not be persecuted
Zollverein- Trade associations between the German states that would regulate tariffs in the 1800s
