Mr. Ebner: Holocaust Survivor

I got a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet someone who survived it all. Aushwitz, the death march, and the unbearable burden of survivors guilt.

bal Mr. Ebnerhas seen many things. He has lived a life worth a trillion stories and has survived things that many would faint at the slightest mention of them. He told his story, filled with emotion, captivatingdetail, and you get a very strong vibe from this man. He is over 80 years old and his message is: he did not survive out of strength, nor savvy, nor because he was stronger, but because, “God got me out alive and had plans for me to live.” He believes that through his stories people will believe, rather than deny, and realize that this happened and must not be allowed to happen again.

-Aushwitz

He says that if he had known that his mother, father, and siblings had been murdered, he would have rebelled and been shot or hung. He explained how nobody knew, the whole time, even 60 years later he did not fully understand. It was the definition of unbelievable. 6 million. This number is the number of murders in the holocaust. 1 and a half million were children. How can anyone understand?

While in front of the stage, He dug through his wallet, and produced a check. This check was from the German government, for around 430$ for the reason of slave labor. “From the nation that did you wrong.” Is what it says. He was telling us that if he has gotten one for over the last 20 years, how could the holocaust have been fake? He sends all of this money to various charities for he is happy enough with his own money.

Overall this man is a respectable gift to America and I am thankful that such an amazingman resides in our great nation. Almost right after he came to America, he was drafted and he served in the Korean war. He kept saying how great our country is and how lucky we all are. I really have taken all of this for granted. I speak for all of Big Walnut Local in saying, thank you Mr. Ebner. You truly are a great man, and it is a privilege for you to be here.
