Mystery of Cheops and Saqqara
Years after hearing about the impossibility of getting a pharaoh into his tomb…
The schools books will suggest that slaves built those pyramids pulling stone blocks on wheeled flats that were then piled high and to a pinnacle. What does not sit well with me is the number of years those slaves would have done that instead of growing grain or doing things that the common Egyptian did outside the royal court. Years of construction with two-ton clocks set on top of one another must have been an incredible feat if in fact slaves did it.
One pyramid at Saqqara is reported not to allow motorized equipment to excavate for any artifacts and that is one of several strange findings including the fact that for the king to be buried the corridors to his chamber should have been wide enough for his sarcophagus to get through. That suggest the king and the queen when then dropped into the tomb from above, something that science does not accept.
Do the tombs carry a curse associated to those that pillaged them? Perhaps they do if I remember well some discoverers did not have a good ending. Greed brought them suffering. Maybe all this was what inspired horror filmmakers to do mummy films with Boris Karloff and also lead to stories about the curse associated with the opening of King Tut’s tomb in 1922. One very good scientific reason for the early death of the explorers who entered the tombs were that they must have been exposed to pathogens which were uncommon and they had no resistance to.
