Notes on The Medieval Life

Maybe economic recession is not so bad after all. Take a look at how life used to be in the past. You are so lucky to have been born in this era.

If you were born in the middle of royalty, you would have lots of privileges such as being a knight and fighting in important campaigns and all the spoils of war would be yours after the fight.

On the other hand if you were born in the middle of peasants then you were condemned to work your entire life just to pay heavy taxes. Sometimes you would even have to fight almost for free.

At that time, religion was most important than ever. Bishops and priests used and abused their power. They had more money than the king, they had more army power than the king. Before you were named king, the Pope had to declare you king. Just imagine the amount of power these people had.

Priests used to rape women and children and they were not punished, not only they were not punished but those who charged them would burn to death because of that. The priests were the only ones who could read at that time.

All the books were written by hand. Some priests would spend the entire day writing just one letter with a lot of art and decoration. The first letter of each chapter was the most elaborated one. Needless to say that only the super rich could ever afford a single book.

There are no medicine at that time. You either were lucky to have good genes and to fight diseases for yourself or you would die in great pain.

Ignorance was so much that they would feed your contaminated blood to the animals like pigs, chickens, cows.

Brutality was even worse at that time. People were spanked for no reason, they were burned alive, raped in public, their bones were stretched until their arms broke and separated from the chest.

In one sentence: In this world you either born or conquer great power or you are condemned to a nasty life.

And God just doesn’t care.
