Pants on The Ground Composer General Larry Platt, “Idol” or Civil Right’s Activist?
General Larry Platt gave everyone a laugh on “American Idol”, but does this man go deeper than he seems to?
We’ve all heard and seen the performance on American Idol of General Larry Platt, a sixty-two year old man from Georgia, and we’ve all had a chuckle watching him perform. However, who is this man?
The following is a link to the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960’s website.

On the home page, there is a picture. The person all the way on the left, looking directly at you, is a young General Larry Platt. He worked with the SNCC (Student Non-Violent Coordinating Comittee. He was around 16 years old at this time.
He was beaten by police on the Bloody Sunday march into Montgomery, Alabama.
Although he was never in the army, he got the nickname of General by helping out so much with the movements of the 1960s, not only in the SNCC, but other civil rights groups as well.
There is a state mandated Larry Platt day in Atlanta, which is September fourth, the first of which was help 9 years ago in 2001.
We can surely at least show respect to this hardened man, who still has a gentle and loving heart after all he’s been through, and don’t make fun of his newfound “fame”, but embrace him for the person that he is.
