`Patriotism’ is a Roman word, which means Fatherland. Romans call their country fatherland. We Indians call our country Motherland. We should love our country as we our parents.

*The Martyrs people gave their lives to free Indian from the British rulers. They have become immortal. Even to day reading about them inspire us. Shaheed Bhagat Singh and his team of patriots left their mark as great martyrs. Bhagat Singh was born in a Sikh farming family. At a very young age he witnessed the bloodshed in Jalianwala Bagh, and promised his motherland to fight thee white rulers who had ordered the shooting.

Doing us proud the year was 1946. India was still not freed from British rule.

 *Jankidas, a leading sportsman, had practiced and worked hard for years, and was finally chosen to participate in an international sports Meet at Zurich. Since India was still a British colony, Indian sportsman participated as part of the British team.

Gandhi met young Jankidas before he was to leave for Zurich. He asked the young sportsman not to participate under a foreign flag. “We have a tri-color. You are an Indian and must participate under the flag of your own country,’’ said Gandhi to Jankidas. Jankidas did not know what to do, when Gandhi made this suggestion.

Jankidas smuggled the Indian tri-color underneath his shirt into Zurich ad at the sports Meet, when the time was right, he hoisted the flag and brought down the union Jack!

Unmindful of the consequences, Jankidas had done Indian proud. And he had done so because have loved his country!
