At the time, this is the second Greek city founded after the conquest of Egypt.

Ptolemais, the ancient city located near Ad Dirsiyah, about 100 km east of Benghazi, Libya, quite riveting. The ancient city which has a temple and a theater that is thelegacy of Greek cultural development.

As the ruler of Egypt, the Greeks became an important group in the Ptolemaic kingdom. The Greeks had largely become landlords. Most of the Greek people in three cities of Greece, namely Naukratis, Alexandria and Ptolemais.

In the early days the city is not disturbed by the activities of the Egyptian religion and tradition. Citizens of Ptolemais, Greece and even build new temples are beautiful to the gods of Egypt and to quickly adopt the appearance of the previous Pharaoh.

But within a century Greek influence had spread in Egypt and the marriage between Greeks and Egyptians produced many of the Greek-Egyptian educated. Even so, the Greeks still a minority who earn the privilege of this Ptolemaic period in Egypt.
