President Obama is NOT a Socialist

Dozens of times I’ve heard it repeated that President Obama is somehow a Communist. This is plainly untrue. I would like to show all of you how plainly untrue this is.
First we need to review what Socialism and Communism are.
Communism: A classless, stateless society based upon common ownership of the means of production.
Socialism: In common usage, a transitional state after capitalism has been abolished that prepares the state and people for the arrival of Communism.
Tell me, fellow Americans, does President Obama want to abolish Capitalism and replace it with a Socialist system that distributes wealth evenly among the people? Does he want to remove all business owners from their positions and replace them with administrative councils run by workers? Most importantly, does he want to abolish the state? Absolutely not. Look at his renewal of the Bush Tax Cuts! No self-respecting Socialist would have done that. Socialists are opposed to oppression in all of its forms including institutional hierarchy within business. Socialists are opposed to the “guys on top” and support the workers of the world in any way possible. In no way has President Obama done this. His policies have supported what a Socialist would consider “Imperialist Wars” based around profit motives. His support for the upper class has been substantial.
So how would President Obama be politically categorized? He would probably be some form of welfare Democrat, far to the right of Socialist. He supports programs such as universal healthcare because of a care for his fellow man, but this in no way indicates that he wants to overthrow the economic and social establishment as a Socialist would. His economic policy is Keynsian school Capitalist, and his social policy supports the status quo. Essentially he’s just your average Democrat, albeit a bit more socially liberal than most.

You are so wrong, my friend. He disregarded 200+ years of bankruptcy law and “gave” GM to the UAW and totally screwed the bondholders. He’s spoke on multiple occasions about ‘redistributing’ wealth to the less fortunate. While it’s true that a truly communist society probably can never exist, he’s clearly sympathetic to the ideals.
Check out this humorous cartoon which uses Obama’s own voice, spoken by him, to make the case that he’s ill prepared to lead a capitalist society. The cartoon uses Obama’s recent (and desperate?) raffle to have dinner with him as a plot device to put him in contact with a perfect foil, who eventually decides that Obama is so hopelessly clueless that she is going to vote for Herman Cain.

It’s pretty funny and it also serves to highlight the differences in worldview (at least in terms of business and the economy) between somebody like Herman Cain and Mr. Obama. I found it illuminating.
