President Obama’s Address to Congress 9/8/11.
At Seven O’clock on Thursday, September 8, 2011, President Barack Obama had his Presidential Address to Congress. What did he want to discuss? Jobs! President Obama is submitting a “Jobs bill” to congress that he says they should pass “Right away”. President Obama spoke of the millions of people who have been out of work for months and the people just barely scraping by. He mentioned how many people are struggling just to pay their mortgage and postponing retirement so their kids can go to college.
His speech was not about his re-election but about how they could do something to help the economy. He was quoted as saying that “The people of this country work hard to meet their responsibilities. The question tonight is whether we’ll meet ours. The question is whether, in the face of an ongoing national crisis we can stop the political circus and actually do something to help the economy”.
So how exactly does President Obama plan to do this? What exactly does President Obama’s “Job Bill” consist of? President Obama calls his idea “The American Jobs Act”. He says that everything in the bill will be paid for and that this will bring many much needed jobs to people who have been out of work for too long. Will this bill pass? And if it does will it work? Will teachers and construction workers get jobs again? Will small business companies get tax breaks?
Every time I hear President Obama speak I truly believe in what he says. Yet I am worried that the bill will not be passed. And if it is it could still take years for it to really work. What do you think?
