Prosecuting The Bush Administration?
Should we or should we not. The advantages and disads.
The Bush Administration has been very controversial. With detainment camps such as Abu Gharib, and Guantanamo Bay taking place under the administration, Bush has taken a lot of blame. These detainment camps often commit ed mass human rights violations in the process of interrogation, such as water boarding. There would be advantages and disadvantages to prosecuting the Bush Administration.

1. The international community would approve. Right now internationally, many nations hate the US, due to Bush’s policies. Obama won the Noble Peace Prize, because he represented change for America, namely not being Bush. So if we were to prosecute Bush, we would garner international support and approval.
2. We cannot allow human rights violations to be unpunished, This means we must uphold a standard of justice, and not allow anybody to get away with crimes against humanity because they are president. The United States needs to uphold is position as a human rights leader, and not allow such crimes to go unpunished.

1. One such argument on the opposition is the sheer size of the cost needed to prosecute the Bush Administration. There are thousands of people involved, and it would likely take years of paperwork, and red tape, which would cost a lot, adding the fact that the United States is already indebted. The unconventional reply to this is that the international community would gladly pay for such a trial, they do not like Bush.
2. A big problem would be the actual trial itself. As I have mentioned before, many people simply do not like Bush. However, it is in the Constitution that everyone shall get a fair trial. This creates a dilemma, as few people are unbiased and it would be hard to find a jury that does not have previous or preconditioned favoring towards one side. This could lead to years of red tape.
3. One study in Stanford was conducted by a professor called Zimbardo. In this study, he put 1/2 of volunteers in prison, and 1/2 as guards. These people were free of any psychological trauma and were mentally stable. In a few days, the students selected as the guards began to develop genuine sadistic tendencies and started to indirectly torture the prisoners since torture was not allowed (By the professor). This could explain the tortures at the detainment camps, people who are guards, will usually develop sadistic tendencies and torture their prisoners.
4. The final argument is that future presidents would be afraid to take the sort of action that may benefit the US, under the fear that they will be prosecuted. This includes such things as declaring war. I Believe this argument is self explanatory.
