Questioning America’s Identity
During Washington’s first term, the government he ran was a republic. Soon after the execution of King Louis, public protest had divided the American people into setting up their own parties.
Washington’s first term showed a developing republic with great potential. They were finally recognized as an independent nation. A French Revolution sparked new ideas into the mind of the American people. Some of them were filled with joy to learn that French too had decided to set up a republic form of government. Yet, there were others who were not too sure. The Republicans and the Federalist were two main groups who had very different ideas on the French issue. Republicans wore the French colors which were red, blue, and white while the Federalist wore black. These colors immediately symbolize a great separation between these two political parties. Ultimately, the execution of King Louis had opened a door in which parties were created. These parties had many different views on certain topics and protested very strongly in different ways. Parties allowed people to join a specific group in which everyone had the same views and ideas.
