Random Trivia for Each of the 44 U.S. Presidents
How well do you think you know your country? You may be surprised to learn how many interesting and random facts you have yet to learn.
1. President George Washington- Yeah, we all know he was first president. But he started out as an army general for the Revolutionary War!
2. President John Adams- John had a brother, Sam Adams, who mostly fell in the shadow of his presidential brother. However, energetic Samuel had a key role in the war for independence.
3. President Thomas Jefferson- Jefferson died on July 4th, exactly 50 years after the Declaration of Independence was signed. Ironically, John Adams, the former President, died a few hours later.
4. President James Madison- He was the smallest President ever, and had Madison Square Garden named after him.
5. President James Monroe- Once a farmer, the University of Virginia now stands where his farm once was. He had sold the land to the college.
6. President John Quincy Adams- Name sounds familiar, huh? Well, take a look back at president John Adams. John Quincy was the first president to have a dad as a president. Just a kid following in his dad’s footsteps.
7. President Andrew Jackson- This red-haired president’s wife died two weeks after he had been elected. Poor guy. He blamed John Quincy Adams for causing her death by making her depressed.
8. President Martin Van Buren- This guy was the first president not to be British, and the first president that was actually born in America – talk about patriotism! One thing that could be first noticed by looking at him were his ridiculous sideburns.
9. President William Harrison- The oldest president until Ronald Regan came along. His term only lasted 32 days! (March 4 – April 4) This puts him in first place for shortest terms.
10. President John Tyler- The first president to take office through vice presidency, taking office after Harrison. At first, there was some confusion as to whether or not he would take office. ‘Twas a close one.
11. President James Polk- This guy is the most unheard of president to date. He was inaugurated at age 49, the youngest president of that time.
12. President Zachary Taylor- Taylor’s nick name was “old rough and ready.” However, he was not ready to be president. He was uninterested, and his party had to drag him into running at first.
13. President Millard Fillmore- The last president from the Whig Party. Where was this guy born? The answer… in a log cabin!
14. President Franklin Pierce- After leaving office, this guy is famous for saying “there’s nothing left to do but get drunk.” After presidency, that is exactly what Franklin did. He had even got into a lot of accidents, including once running over an old lady in his carriage. Talk about someone who had to get a life.
