Red, White and Boom
The well known star-spangled symbols of America.
Happy Birthday America! July 4th is a time for all Americans to reflect on the symbols, which represent the freedoms of the individual in our country.
You may not agree with the latest political strategy but the symbols of this country’s beginnings are what will survive long after the current political jargon is part of the history books.
For America was a country founded on the principles of freedom. This promise of freedom is what has drawn and will continue to draw millions to her shores. For as long as there is oppression, there will be the dream of freedom. America, long may she live!
Statue of Liberty
The statue of Liberty is certainly associated with America as a symbol of our freedom and independence. It is probably one of the most recognized symbols worldwide of America. Lady Liberty greeted millions of immigrants as they sailed into New York Harbor on their way to Ellis Island.
The Statue of Liberty depicts a woman holding a lit torch and wearing a Roman inspired robe. The statue alone is 151 feet tall and including the pedestal it is 305 feet in height. The Statue of Liberty welcomes the oppressed. It promises to provide a safe harbor and freedom for all who hunger for the dream of freedom.
Frenchman, Frederic Bartholdi with the assistance of Eiffel tower designer Gustave Eiffel, designed the Statue of Liberty. The Statue of Liberty was presented to the United States as a gift from the people of France as a gesture of goodwill.
The index finger of Lady Liberty is 8 feet in length and her nose is 4 feet, 6 inches long. From the top of her head to her heels is a distance of 111 feet, 1 inch. The total weight of this statue is 450,000 pounds or 204.1 tons. The Statue of Liberty is framed in steel with sheets of pure copper creating the imposing image we have come to identify as a true symbol of America.
Inside the Statue of Liberty:
The Liberty Bell
The Liberty Bell is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and is another historical symbol of freedom to Americans. It is a symbol of liberty, justice and independence.
