Some of the important figures of the Renaissance.
Ambroise Pare
· Born in Bourg-Hersent in 1510
· Died on December 20, 1590
· Surgeon
· Found a way for the solider to be in less pain, when hit by a fire arm and when being amputated on.
Ambroise Pare knew what he was doing as a surgeon. He was the leader in surgical techniques and battle field medicine which means he was able to perform treatments successfully near the combat zone. Instead of using boiling hot oil to treat wounds, he found a new and better way to treat them. He wasn’t just a surgeon. He was also a writer. He had two books about his discoveries and surgical procedures.
Giovanni Bellini
· Born in Venice in 1430
· Died in 1516
· Painter
· One of his famous works of art is Madonna with Child
Giovanni Bellini was the best know painter of the Bellini family. Bellini has his own style of painting. He used slow drying oil paints so then he could create deep tints and detailed shading. Through his painting, he inspired some of his pupils like Giorgione and Titian.
William Shakespeare
· Born in Stratford on April 16th, 1564
· Died April 23, 1616
· Writer
· One of his most famous and most talked about pieces of work is Hamlet
A lot of people call him the greatest writer in the English language. People also say he is the best at writing dramas. In England, he is called the National Poet. His works consisted of 38 plays, 154 Sonnets which is a collection of poems, and two long narratives. All of his plays have been translated into every major language.
Andreas Vesalius
· Born in Brussels on December 31, 1514
· Died October 16, 1564
· Doctor and author
· Founder of modern human anatomy
He is the writer or one of the more influenced books of Anatomy. He is sometimes called the founder of modern anatomy. His dissections of the human body helped correct the misconceptions that had been believed for a very long time. He received his medical degree from the University of Pavia. Right after he finished college, he was a teacher and taught medicine in 1428 at the University of Leuven.
Michelangelo
· Born March 6, 1475
· Died Februar y 18, 1564
· Sculptor, painter, architect, and poet
· One of his most famous sculptures was David
He was considered to be the archetypal Renaissance man. Michelangelo’s work in every field during his lifetime was of the highest order. He was truly a perfectionist. He exerted an unparalleled influence on the development of Western art.
