Republicans Have a Good Chance of Taking The White House in 2012
Bookies show President Obama as the favorite in the 2012 election. It however appears that the Republicans will be a force to contend with.
Bookies have already determined the odds on the presidential elections in the United States in 2012. Sportingbet.com has President Obama as the favorite at 4/11. Mitt Romney follows 7/1, with Tim Pawlenty 10/1. However, many Americans are still in the process of determining exactly which candidates are going to run. The Democrats already has theirs. He is the incumbent, President Barack Obama. On the other hand, the Republicans are still to decide who their frontrunner will be. This is unusual for them, since in past elections, they tended to decide on a candidate sooner. Many pundits feel that there is still enough time to do so, before the election on November 6, 2012. It is most unlikely that Sen. John McCain, Obama’s challenger in 2008, will be in the race, one reason being, his age. Sportingbet.com has him last of all candidates at 100/1.
Names are being floated vying for the Republican nomination. Candidates like Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney initially formed exploratory committees to test the waters. Bur so far, only Gingrich and Congressman Ron Paul have thrown their hats in the ring. The African Republican woman, Condoleezza Rice, rated at 20/1, is not considered a candidate.
But where are the others? Sportingbet.com that puts Tim Pawlenty at 10/1, is expected to let us know of his decision soon. Donald Trump 25/1 – media mogul, reality TV star host, announced that he no longer intends to enter the race. When it seems that he was contemplating a run, he forced Obama to reveal a long version of his birth certificate showing he was indeed born in Hawaii. At this year’s White House Correspondent Annual Dinner, Obama ridiculed and mocked Trump, saying, if he got into the White House, at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, it would be called “Trump White House Resort and Casino.”
Mich Daniels and Newt Gingrich were both at 12/1, but a favorite of the Tea Party Movement Sarah Palin was at 25/1. Devan Lynch, in an editorial in Ireland’s Sunday Independent, wrote, “If you want the truth, your best bet is the bookies,” that put Obama’s odds at 2/1, and Romney’s 10/1. With some bookies Obama was closer to 2/5.
Why is this, when the economy in America is in a mess?
Many pundits in the United States attribute this phenomenon to Obama’s ability in making the decision to have Osama Bin Laden – the master terrorist of 9/11, killed. This was carried out by Navy seals in Pakistan, where he lived. By using two chinooks followed the lead of Black Hawk helicopters, the seals landed in Bin Laden’s compound. Having accomplished their mission, they transported his body to a U.S. ship waiting in the Arabian Sea, collected DNA evidence from him, and buried his body at sea. When there were some voices that called for pictures to be made public, the Obama administration spent weeks considering the request. After, Obama decided not to do so, on the grounds that it might be inflammatory to Muslims in the Middle East. On May 11, 2011, 64% approved of the president’s decision in handling this affair.
