Richard Arkwright and the Industrial Revolution

I am lead to believe that Mr Arkwright was a bad man this is mainly because of the way his workers were treated while he lived in comfort, source 1 that showed his workers were treated well is unreliable because he only questioned the rich children, who were treated differently, he also never entered the factory so did not know what the conditions inside were like, also he says they get a break of 40 minutes but this isn’t very much as they work 12 or more hour shifts. Likewise source 5 shows that he treated people well, but this is not solid evidence because this could have been to keep the workers happy with there bad conditions and poor wages, the person who reported it, Sylas Neville never met Arkwright or went in the factory so he only saw one side. Source 6 written by James Watt is reliable as he was a famous inventor himself, although he disliked him, he respected him a businessman. However he heard stories of Arkwright stealing ideas. Even so we do have to except that he was the person that made Britain the first industrial Nation. Source 13 written by Joseph Farrington says he gave children education; again this was probably to make the parents happy, and cost him very little. Which suggests he doesn’t care about the children’s education.
