Fascism- Political Philosophy movement Government dealing with autocratic beliefs Often has a dictator in power of the government Severe economic and social regimentation Forcible suppression of opposition
Mussolini- Fascist dictator of Italy from 1922 to 1943. The defeat of the Italians in WWII led to his downfall Planned to create an Italian Empire to be allied with the Germans of Hitler
Il Duce- What Mussolini was called after he centralized of the power in Italy upon himself. Meaning leader or in other interpretations, duke.
Hitler- Leader of the German Nazi Party Started as Chancellor and then became Dictator of Germany from 1933 until his death He rode a wave of European fascism after WWI to get to the top of the political chain Found a scapegoat in the Jews Is responsible for over 10 million deaths, at least 6 million Jews
Nazis- Political party led by Hitler Known as Hitler’s army and servants Increased Hitler’s political authority They abolished trade unions and forced workers, employees and employers into their organization Expected complete obedience to any rank higher than ones own
Mein Kampf- A book written by Hitler when he was sentenced to prison after being found guilty for taking part in the Beer Hall Putsch
He was in jail, but the rules did not apply to him, he had a consistent flow of friends and party members visiting and staying with him.Mein Kampf outlines his political philosophy and that his race was superior to all others. It stated that the Jews were specifically threatening his Aryan race and they must be ended
Aryans- The superior race that Hitler believed he led Believed it was being threatened by intermarriage and the lazy Jews If this race didn’t exist there would be a barbarian age on earth
Lebensraum- Additional territory deemed necessary by the Nazis, for their continued existence or economic well-being. Germany expanded into its neighboring territories for their own benefit On their way they took out inferior races like Jews, Gypsies and Homosexuals Also dealt with the set up of more death and concentration
Fuhrer- Meaning leader, it defined Hitler’s dominant role as dictator of Germany Used during the Third Reich, he became “the law” A personality cult was built around the Führer. Hitler’s portraits and photographs were displayed everywhere in Germany. “Hei lHitler!” (“Hail Hitler!”) became legally obligatory as a common greeting, as did the Hitler salute of the right arm fully thrust forward with the palm facing downward. Third Reich- Nazis rise to power to take out the Weimar Republic Hitler is appointed chancellor and then dictator of Germany Government suspended Constitutional Civil rights Nazi foreign policy was put into effect
Aryan women had a burden to bear as many superior children as possible
Holocaust- death of 6 million Jews Wars of Annihilation Kinder, Kirche Kuche Term stood for German children, church, kitchen. These things all became very important Women were urged to return to these things, releasing jobs for men.
