Rotten Food: Gross! The Story of Pasteurization

Countless people died due to food shortage and poisoning. Back in the 1700s, diseases came from nowhere stumped doctors from time to time. People were thinking, “Where did these illnesses come from?” and “What caused them?”.

After research, both doctors and scientists confirmed that sickness-causing germs come from our surroundings, the food we eat, and most importantly, the water we drink. Pasteurization, invented by Louis Pasteur, reduced the headaches brought from bacteria. With the brilliant invention of Pasteurization, less food is wasted, less people infected with illnesses, and even lives are saved each year.

To begin with, water ended up safer to drink and use because of pasteurization. The tap water placed in many illnesses to people’s daily lives. Before pasteurization was invented, most germs or viruses swarmed organisms through the water they drink. Humans are no exception. Water is essential for life and drunk often. If the water is infected with germs, then our bodies will most likely be ill. Water is also a key source, which means if water is not dirt free, other matter around it cannot be sanitary. For example, eating tools are cleaned by water. If the water washing the dish has germs containing, then the bacteria can eventually get into the food and stomach.

Moreover, milk would be more sanitary. Milk is common in breakfasts and other meals. Less milk is wasted, which leads to fewer forests cut down for herding land. Milk and other dairy products have numerous nutrients for all ages; however, mad cow is a horrifying disease in the milk which is not pasteurized can cause death.

Furthermore, pasteurization has developed into other purifying products such as types of soap and sanitizers. These products are widely used in homes, restaurants, and factories. People pay more attention to health from time to time. The disease problems are commonly origins from bacteria and viruses. These purifying products provide great opportunities to eliminate the threats of health problems. They are cheap and quite useful. Thus they become more and more popular and important to our daily lives.

All in all, pasteurization has a great impact in the world and it is the most revolutionary invention of all time. Without it, not only more people will suffer from different diseases, but also more foods would be wasted. Although pasteurization has solved some of the food safety problems, some people today still die of hunger and food poisoning. Let us all hope scientists will discover a way to entirely prevent these gloomy tragedy.
