Sara Palin, an Idiot for All Seasons

She was the Governor of Alaska.   She wasn’t particularly useful nor active.  She was there, smiling.  She claimed to be a ‘hockety mom’ , inferring that she was very much into her children, yet her daughter was the town punch, pregnant for a guy who couldn’t be paid to marry her.

This fact alone ought have turned off all those ‘fundies’ who looked to her as some kind of saviour.  But it didn’t. None of those ‘Christians’  seemed to catch the fact, that her daughter had to be engaging in sex with people.

This wasn’t a situation in which the parties were engaged to be married and jumped the gun, this is the case of a gal who was thought so low in the mix of things that the fact the putative father could have built his future on marrying this girl, preferred not.

Palin babbled against Socialised Health Care which would give Americans the same benefits enjoyed in Canada. Benefits she herself too advantage of.

This fact alone ought have undercut and credibility she might have owned.  It didn’t.  

The Republican Party, to its credit, found a similar ditz to push forward, moving her to rabble rouser.  She smiled her way through tea parties which are the modern version of Ku Klux Klan meetings.  The fringe right adores her because they are just as hypocritical, just as stupid as she is.

In prvious decades a woman like her would have been humiliatd into ignominy.  In this modern ‘liberal’ day, the kind of ‘liberal’ that her followers disdain, the disconnect between what she does and what she says is relished.

The reason Palin and her ilk are so popular is due to the deep well of racism that exists in the United States.  Racists didn’t care that America’s credit rating would drop.  They don’t care how badly America does.  To stymie Barack Obama at every turn is their mission.

To talk about cutting off a nose to spite a face is far too frail a concept to truly describe what is happening.
