Scary Nightmares: The Past Wars

War is another form of killing that has taken away many lives. Let’s all aim for peace.

“Little boy” atomic bomb – 29”diameter, 126”length, 9,700 pounds weight, 20,000 tons of TNT equivalent yield

Shortly thereafter, on August 6, 1945, a bomb weighing 5 tons (called little boy) was dropped over Hiroshima, Japan killed more than 88,000 people, 51,000 people either injured or missing. 22,000 out of 48,000 buildings collapsed and destroyed in this bombing incident. On August 9, 1945, the United States dropped second atomic bombs over the city of Nagasaki, Japan. 273,000 people died and 60,000 people were reported missing on this second bombing event.

Shall the United States drop the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki? People seem to have different perceptions on this issue. Some people think that the use of nuclear weapons is a violation of human civilization and is regarded as inhuman and atrocious. Einstein who wrote letter to propose president for the creation of atomic bomb, and other scientists involved in this project later felt deeply guilty on the bombings in Japan, particularly for the innocent victims that were killed in this war.

On the other hand, some people agreed to the action taken by the United States as they explained that this is the best way to accelerate the surrender of Japan’s fascism from spreading their imperialism to other countries.

Burnt skin in the dark portions were results from the atomic explosion, 1945

Undeniably, the atomic bombs dropped in both Hiroshima and Nagasaki took away 100,000 innocent lives. The hospital personnel who came to rescue the victims had to experience the injury caused by nuclear radiation. Its radiation effect on human carried as long as 20 years.

The sad thing is the tragedy of atomic bomb did not end here. Shortly thereafter the bombing in Japan, the Soviet Union exploded its own atomic bomb.

After World War II, the development of missile technology had added the wings of atomic bomb to bloom till now. This is like the opening of a Pandora’s Box of magic with the dark shadow encompasses the entire world.

Up to now, war never ends and it has used as the measure to achieve the purpose of economy, politic and social status. The war is another form of massive killing, slaughter and massacre. War is also considered as homicide that touches the peaceful life of the world.

Human is regarded as the highest civilization and intelligent animal, and thus individual or terrorist who propose war is like a beast. I am wandering why war is chosen to solve the problem. Shall we just sit face to face and get the problem solved in peace? Why people can’t go in peace instead of war???

No winner and no loser. True. Sadly, the struggle for land, power, and prestige in one form or another will always be part of existence for as long as there is civilization. Doesn’t seem so civilized when we see the end results, does it?

    Great article, Chan.

I agree with you Chan, and Darlene. Even children have disagreements, and settle them, going back to play peacefully. Adults could learn from them. Very passionate plea, and good research Chan. You were quite eloquent.
