Seonyudo and the Han River’s History

In the city of Seoul, there is a very large river with an island. This island is called Seonyudo Island. The river that is surrounding it is the Han river. From Seonyudo, the school of SFS is south of it. Seonyudo is also south east from the World Cup.
The visit people make to Seonyudo is usually a good one. Many things can be observed from visitors. This place used to be a sewage treatment. It now has many new things unimaginable for a sewage treatment. For example, there are many gardens, trees, wild animals, and many buildings. There are many improvements to this island.
Since the island was surrounded by the Han river, there was many changes that had to be made depending on the technology and problems. One problem was that people couldn’t get on the island, so they built a bridge to get across from the city to the island. Before the bridge was built, people often swam there or used a boat. Now, today, we can easily use cars to get to the island.
This island was used in many ways in Korea. It was even used in a war! The war was called the Korean War. When South Korea was being invaded by the North Koreans, the Americans allied themselves with South Korea, but the Chinese allied themselves to the North. When they invaded South Korea, they were about to invade Seonyudo. The Americans and South Koreans agreed that they should destroy the bridge to avoid complete invasion from North Korea.
The Han river had many problems back when Seonyudo still wasn’t very supported. These problems also caused many problems for the city Seoul. The river often rose and flooded the city. They made many adjustments to the island so the problems Seoul had also affected Seonyudo. The movement of Seonyudo was slowed because of this delay also.
Events went by quickly for the Han River. No matter how small or big of an event it is, it is an event that happened historically. Like back then, when its island was just a sewage treatment with a lot of junk and gross objects. Its island later became a park in 1982. The Han River didn’t always have a good side. It caused Seonyudo to make higher banks and flood Seoul repeatedly. So Seonyudo and the Han River always have events that affect Seoul.
