Ship of Thesus

The ship of thesus is a story that questions if all the parts of a ship are replaced is the ship still the same ship. In my opinion the ship is still the same ship since it is the idea of the ship that counts. Like Plato says the physical world is flawed since it is always changing. Thus the ship is only making itself better, into the idea of a ship which is already perfect. This can relate to the modern world, specifically to today’s modern children. Compared to our parents and grandparents our lives differ so greatly could you say we had childhoods that were at all similar. Before my great grandma past away I can remember visiting her and seeing how her house seemed like a piece of history. 300 hundred years ago who would have thought that we could contact the orient in less than 5min. Children were for a long time meant to be seen and not heard, however in modern times we are more likely to be told if we don’t have anything intelligent to say don’t speak at all. The idea that children are meant to be dolls for parents has much, now children are pushed in sports to out do parents friends and in the academics so they can say how proud they are their child did this. While our children’s lives have change drastically, parents are still using them to show off. The idea of children as a prized possession has remained the same, the competition however is what is new just like the pieces of wood.
