Soviet Union Expelled From The League of Nations
On the 14th December 1939 the League of Nations, the international peacekeeping organization formed at the end of the First World War expelled the USSR in response to the Soviet invasion of Finland on October 30.
The League of Nations was formed with the mission to prevent another Great War, however it proved to be an ineffective organization. It was unable to prevent the Japanese invasion of China, or the Italians from taking over in Ethiopia. The German nation was able to remilitarize despite it being a direct violation of the Treaty of Versailles, the document that set the terms for peace at the end of the First World War.
In 1933 both Germany and Japan voluntarily withdrew from the League of Nations, Italy did likewise in 1937. the designs of the Soviet Union became apparent when it occupied eastern Poland in September of 1939. it claimed that it was protecting the Ukrainians’ and Byelorussians from the menace supposedly offered by the Poles. The Baltic States of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia were then the next to feel the might of the Soviets and were terrorized into signing pacts of mutual assistance, primarily these were one sided agreements that gave the Soviets air and naval bases in those countries.
The invasion of Finland, with no prior provocation or pact could be justified to merit the aggression and resulted in worldwide condemnation. At that time the US and USSR were allies and The US President Roosevelt’s reaction to the invasion caused the Soviets to withdraw from the New York World’s Fair and then eventually the league of Nations with almost its last breath expelled the Soviet Union.

I didn’t know about the invasion of Finland. Maybe I did at one point, but if so, I forgot about it.
