The 1950’s

A essay I wrote about what the 1950’s was all about and how it was a beneficial time period.

The nineteen fifties was a time of peace prosperity and progress, due to  consumerism success,  advancement in new media and technologies, and  order in relationships.

During the mid nineteen fifties people had money and were willing to spend it on goods they wanted and necessities.  Nearly 60 percent of Americans were engaged in the middle class, that’s twice as many as before world war two. New products were  coming out and people wanted them. Hot stylish cars were coming out, new cooking equipment was  popping up everywhere, and sales were skyrocketing. Buy now and pay later was a new system of payment towards goods which Americans took to full advantage. Americans could make a purchase with credit and not have to pay it off right away.  In addition to the dinners club credit, people could also buy large items and put the payment on a installment plan, and could pay regular payments over a fixed time.

Advancement in technologies also made the nineteen fifties a time of progress.  The American dream was on the horizon and people wanted it for themselves and for the family. The American dream included a house with a spacious yard, a beautiful Buick convertible, and a job that could support a family.

TV played a important role in capturing American lives during the 1950’s.  People could watch their favorite TV show and  play a part in it.  Cars also played a essential role in keeping Americans happy.  People loved their cars so much they opened up drive through restaurants, drive through  movie theaters and, on Saturday nights teens went cruising the streets with no particular reason but just for the fun of it. In the 2950’s there were so many cars on the road that highway officials had to open up a interstate highway system to accommodate all the cars on the road. Comics were really popular with kids in the 2950’s people could put on 3-d glasses and read  pop up comics that popped right out ofthe book which fascinated kids and parents alike.

Family order was a role in which parents could keep track of their children and at the same time keep the family organized. Dating took small steps insuring a positive and friendly relationships and less focus on the sexual side of relationships. No sex until marriage was in almost everyone’s family’s rulebook.

The 1950’s was a time of peace prosperity and progress due to safe suburban life, new technologies and advancement in mass media.
