I thought about writing an old 60s. I started doing research and you know what? A lot happened in that time span! Like the notable assassinations: (Jan.17,1961, Patrica Lumumba, the Prime Minister of the Republic of the Congo, assassinated by a Belgian and Congolese firing squad outside Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo.)( June12,1963, Medgar Evers, A NAACP field secretary, assassinated by a Ku Klux Klan in Jackson, Mississippi.) (Nov.22,1963, John F. Kennedy, President of the United States, assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald in Dallas, Texas.) ( Feb.21,1965, Malcolm X, assassinated by members of the Nation of Islam in New York City.)( Aug.25,1967, George Lincoln Rockwell, leader of the American Nazi Party, assassinated by John Patler in Arlington, Virginia.)(April 4,1968,Martin Luther King, civil rights leader, assassinated by James Earl Ray in Memphis, Tennessee.)(June 5,1968, Robert F.Kennedy,United States Senator, assassinated by Sirhan Sirhan in Los Angeles, California.)(Dec.4,1969, Fred Hampton, Deputy Chairman for the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party, assassinated by police in Chicago, Illinois.

Then there was the Anti-War Movement. The protest of the War in Vietnam. Over a half million American troops were sent to fight in that war. The rise of Feminism, more freedom for women in all areas of life including the work place and have equal pay. Free love was formed by people known as Hippies and they created a movement toward liberation in society including questioning authorities, demanding more freedom and rights for women, and minorities. They were heavily into drugs like marijuana and LSD and psychedelic music.

I like to think of the 1800’s as an amazing time for advances of all kinds in mechanics and their amazing array of expressions, but the 60’s advanced social inclusiveness with as much greatness despite all the bloodshed and attempts to intervene in the attempts to get America to live up to its idealism. We’ve come a long way baby. We should all be determined that those murders of good men will not be in vain.
