The Aftermath of The Holocaust

The blood spilt in the Holocaust is stained into American history due to the lack of action this country took even though the United States vowed to never allow any future genocide to go unnoticed.

In an attempt to create fewer issues, the United States ignored the cries of European Jews, even as they faced total annihilation under the hands of Hitler. Although there was conclusive evidence to prove that a genocide was going on, the United States pushed this dire issue to the side. This decision caused millions of Jewish people to die unnecessarily in concentration camps. The massacre of the Jews during the Holocaust created a sense of shame and humiliation in the American people. This shame and humiliation drove many people to speak out and get involved in hopes of never allowing such an atrocity from happening again.

There are a variety of reasons why people feel impelled to speak out and offer their own testimonial of the Holocaust. To begin with, people who offered testimonials wanted to give their own first hand accounts of the horrifying things they saw and experienced. A Holocaust survivor would want the world to know about the pain and torture that he/she has gone through to survive. A soldier would want to talk about the shocks and horrors they saw at the camps and being unable to comprehend how something like this could ever happen. Nonetheless, each testimonial offers a small piece to a larger puzzle concerning the Holocaust which is invaluable to historians and future generations in preventing such an event from reoccurring. In addition, these testimonials will verify that such an event has occurred. Even today, there are arrogant and naive people out in the world who feel that the Holocaust never existed. These testimonials will only provide further evidence that an event of this scale occurred and that it was not merely fiction.

Next, it is extremely important to pass these stories on in hopes of never allowing such a tragedy from occurring again. The sad truth is that at one point, everyone who has experienced the holocaust first hand will have died. If their story is never passed on, their valuable pieces of information will also die with them. Those who were involved in the Holocaust are constantly reminded of the effects that it has had upon them whether is be physically or emotionally. I think that it is equally important that even people who did not personally experience the Holocaust be aware of what occurred. The mistakes we made in the past will help steer us away from making the same mistake twice especially after seeing the aftermath of the Holocaust. It is also of utmost importance that we pass on these stories to future generations to stop us from making the same mistake twice. In addition, these stories will teach us to never allow genocides to happen again because of the fatal consequences.
