The Canadian Flag

Why I think the introduction of the Canadian flag might be the most significant event in Canadian history.

Some people might believe that the Canadian Flag was the most significant event in the 20th century of Canadian history. They believe that the Canadian Flag was the most significant event because it was a symbol of independency and showed a lot of Canadians that they were in fact able to be independent. In 1925 Prime Minister Mackenzie King set up a committee to design a new Canadian flag, although it was cancelled because of strong opposition. The suggestion for a red and white single maple leaf design for the Canadian flag came from George Stanley, a professor at Royal Military College in Kingston, Ontario. It wasn’t until 1965 that Canada had its own national flag. The Canadian Flag consists of a red maple leaf with 11 points on a white background, with red borders down each side. So, that is why some people might believe that the Canadian Flag is the most significant event of the 20th century.
