The Canadian Flag

Some people might believe that the Canadian Flag was the most significant event in the 20^th century of Canadian history. They believe that the Canadian Flag was the most significant event because it was a symbol of independency and showed a lot of Canadians that they were in fact able to be independent. In 1925 Prime Minister Mackenzie King set up a committee to design a new Canadian flag, although it was cancelled because of strong opposition. The suggestion for a red and white single maple leaf design for the Canadian flag came from George Stanley, a professor at Royal Military College in Kingston, Ontario. It wasn’t until 1965 that Canada had its own national flag. The Canadian Flag consists of a red maple leaf with 11 points on a white background, with red borders down each side. So, that is why some people might believe that the Canadian Flag is the most significant event of the 20^th century.
