The Duchess of Alba; Or, Love is “A Many Splendored Thing”? I Guess So… :-)

Love…

We speak of it in countless different ways. When it "victimized" :-) me, I dove into encyclopedias and philosophers (yes, including Plato, Aristotle, Saint Thomas Aquinas–name some more) to understand it.

Have we succeeded really in defining it? –in "encyclopaedizing" it?

Ah, Love, "let us be true" to one another…Matthew Arnold whispers in "Dover Beach."

It’s a "many splendored thing," I remembered the Lettermen singing when I was in high school… And they still do…

Here’s another addition to love’s being a many-splendored thing…though exactly what constitutes the splendor is bound to be the topic of some more meditations for you and…yes, me. Smile :-)

But there’s no doubt about it…believe me: when Love presides, all things unlovely, because unkind, shall move aside…

By the way, I admire the Duchess of Alba:-)

Maria del Rosario Cayetana Alfonsa Victoria Eugenia Francisca Fitz-James Stuart y de Silva is 85 years old. She is the Duchess of Alba in Spain. Her “worth” is “somewhere between $850 million and $5 billion.”

Thus writes Mike Krumboltz  on August 9 in http://en.news.maktoob.com/20090000954544/Wealthy_duchess_gives_fortune_away_to_marry/Article.htm.

Krumboltz goes on to state that the Duchess wishes to marry Alfonso Diez, “a civil servant who is 24 years younger.”

Any objections? Yes. From the Duchess’ six children. They believe that Alfonso is only after their—harsh this may seem—mother’s money.

Well, the Duchess is giving away her money, as, she has been quoted saying, Alfonso ” ‘wants nothing but me.’ “

Who are the recipients of the Duchess’ magnanimity?

“According to the UK Guardian,” Krumboltz writes on, “the duchess has given her children and eight grandchildren ‘a palace each.’ That ought to keep them quiet.”

I sure do hope so:-)
