The History and Conflict of Kashmir 2
Kashmir is a beautiful land and the people of this region consider it a place of heaven. It is beautiful by its natural scenery, lake and hills above all for its soothing climate through out the season of the year. Strategically it is a important place of India as it is surrounded by Pakistan, China, and Tajikistan and partly by Afghanistan.
Protection of Kashmir by Indian Army
29th, September 1947, Indian troops set foot in Srinagar to drive away the invaders. The landing of Indian troops at Srinagar had been communicated to Lord Mountbatten, the last Viceroy of British Kingdom. National Conference Leader Sheikh Abdulla and Maharaja Hari Singh both were against the naked aggression of Pakistan and asked people of Kashmir to oppose the invader. The situation of Kashmir turned volatile. The fighting between the armies of both the countries continued. Lord Mountbatten advised Nehru, the Prime Minister of India to refer the incident of aggression committed by Pakistan to the UN Security Council immediately.
The conflict of Kashmir referred to United Nation
According to the advice of Lord Mountbatten, the issue was referred to the UN Security Council on March 18, 1948. After a long debate in the Security Council, it was decided to send a Commission to India. The UN Commission arrived in Delhi and talked with the Government of India and Pakistan. On August 13, 1948, the Security Council adopted a resolution proposing cessation of hostilities and asking Pakistan to vacate the territory it occupied and restoring to the Government of India jurisdiction over the entire State of Jammu and Kashmir and thereafter arranging for a fair and impartial plebiscite. It was therefore, the duty of the UN Commission to ensure that Pakistan did completely withdraw its forces and personal and nationals from the State. But it had not happened till today. But Kashmir under India was ruled by the people of Kashmir after the formation of Government by conducting election every after five years interval.
