The Holocaust
Over the past five years, I have heard comments that maybe the Holocaust never happen. I beg to differ. This expresses my small family connection and my heart regarding WWII. I hope this part of our history never repeats itself.
Another scene in ” Schindler’s List” is the Nazi officer Amon Goeth announcing that the population of the Jews in Krakow is history as of that evening. He states “they never happened.” Wow, that is a profound chance to take trying to alter our knowledge of living reality. The good news is it’s not true, and our Jewish communities are alive and live wherever they live. I bow before them in homage to their courage and determination, especially those who carry the concentration camp number tattooed into their arms. I am thankful for their descendants who have the experiences of their grandparents, uncles and aunts to tell us. I would rather sit for hours listening to them than watching the comedic TV shows I think I need to relax.
The Holocaust did happen. Hitler is dead. We must not let anyone or anything do this again. We need to let cultures be who they are, strive to protect ourselves from hurting each other inside and outside of our cultures. Let’s stay awake world, we cannot afford further disasters. After all, what’s to say a situation would not target any unsuspecting culture group. We would need to band together and save ourselves again.
