The Left’s Totalitarian Martyrs: Salvador Allende

Allende has become a martyr and hero to the political left.

On September 11, 1973, forces led by General Augusto Pinochet bombarded the La Moneda presidential palace in an attempt to overthrow Salvador Allende. Allende calculated correctly that shooting himself will make himself a “martyr.” Allende has become another hero to the political left. He became a martyr to the political left. Since Latin America is the one place where communist propaganda won, he’s another martyr killed by General Pinochet’s “attempt” to destroy “democracy.” The 1973 coup has become a stage for leftist propaganda, the overthrow of a democratically-elected Socialist by “capitalist exploiting” America and Pinochet, the latter of whom committed human rights violations. And guess what, leftists have set the stage that exposing Allende as a Communist dictator means you’re a Fascist and a Nazi because you supposedly then support Pinochet who was suppodely both. And leftists went as far as to call the 1973 coup the “other 9/11″ since it was  on September 11, 2001 that Al Qaeda terrorists struck at the WTC in NYC and the pentagon in Washington DC. That allegation appeared all over the web and “Chile: The other 9/11″ has been a title of a book and a documentary. That was the most notorious example for leftists and anti-American propagandists to draw a moral equivalence between America and Al Qaeda terrorists.

So the leftist version of the 1973 coup is an obsession to anti-American and leftist propagandists.

I don’t support Pinchet’s crimes. Pinochet didn’t set up a grand plot to destory Chile’s democracy. He had over simplified and extreme views, a paranoid military dictator.

It should be noted that Allende was publicly a Marxist. Allende stated that [for those of you who don't want to download the source, go here]:

The Communist Party is the party of the working class, the Communist Party is the Party of the Soviet Union, the first socialist state in the world, and whoever wants to create a socialist government without the communists is not a Marxist; and I am a Marxist.

Joseph Stalin is remembered by everyone, even the political left, as a mass-murderer. Yet the leftist “hero,” Salvador Allende, after he died praised him. On Stalin, Allende said this:
