If it's true, it's really great. The mistery around this mine makes it more famous. I would like to go there someday.

I've been hiking in there and sneaking gold out for years. My father showed me that location when I was 10 and his father showed him. All the 'easy' gold is gone.

Mr. James Burke? I remember you. You probrably dont even remember me, lol. I really dont care if you buy my bull or not. Im just saying, been there, done that, lol. I believe this is all just hipe to draw tourists to the area....and maybe a few more to their deaths. Kinda like the Utah hikers that came up dead right out there close to that area. Yellow peak if I recall. Just a bit NW of where that supposed mine is. If everyone would do a little research, (Not sure of name, but sure of previous claim) McGill, back in the older days, claims to have found it in the almost exact same local. And Phil, youve done your research pretty well. Over 350 missing person reports since 1876, and only 120 or so bodies recovered. Theres got to be a pretty large pile of skeletans out there somewhere. I recall one account I read of a woman who claimed someone held her and her husband hostage, killed her husband in front of her. She managed to escape, and in so doing on her exit from the cave, she passed a very large funnel shaped hole full of skeletans. Ive always wondered if that was the caverna. I used to be well known down there, by LDM hunters, and forest rangers alike. I knew the Superstition Wilderness area Supervising Ranger personally. (Tried to get me to join the trail maintenance crews). Yes, I have hiked them mountians, stood on about every spot, campground, place ever mentioned in any book or story. I have also located may places, not marked on any map but my own. Ive mingle with the awesome authors of the books, and still communicate with some. I photo documented every trip, and keep a descriptive journal. I found artifacts, relics, and some of the old timers camps. I found a camp on Picacho Butte with a coffee pot still sitting in the fire ring. When I lifted it, something clunked inside. Inside was the address and phone number (5 digits, lol), which was appropriate for the era. But this gentleman and author, had long since retired to the great hunting grounds. Ive always had buddies with me out there, so none of my storys are BULL. They can all be proven. And frankly, I have nothing to lose. But I have memory full of good times looking, hiking, and exploring them awesome mountians. Unfortunately, a spinal disease has stopped my efforts to go back. But maybe one day I will, by horse, or something. One thing I will say...there is gold out there. Ive seen the governments own research on geology of the area, and I cant believe theyd lie through their teeth about there being no gold out there. They just want control over it all. Kinda like bulldozing Reevis Ranch house, instead of letting Friends of Reevis Group restore it. Anywhos, thats no bull. Advice to all.....dont go in there without alot of water (if you dont know where it is), carry a gun for the bad *cough* critters, dont rely on a map to tell you where water is. Dont misjudge your hiking distance, or times. You may get caught in the dark.(I also volunteered for search and rescues).
Dont eat the cactus(except prickly pear, and saguro fruit), *its a myth* you could get hepatitus from it, or something worse. Dress appropriately, its the desert, it will shred you. If you get lost, dont panic, relax, and think it thru. I know for fact that alot of the canyons look the same from below. Dont be stupid, and climb steep slopes with no trail. Small rocks (marbles) will send you tumbling. Dont take chances. If your returning out the same way, mark your trail in your own fashion so youll know the way for sure. And, if its raining anywhere near the supers, dont stay to long in washes. My friends and I have seen West Boulder canyon looking like the Colorado river, seriously! Otherwise, have fun out there. PS. Mr Burke, you wont be driving it out, lol. (No mechanized equipment/vehicles)

The mine is actually a cavern implanted in the ground, somewhat similar to the caves one finds in New Mexico. As a young teenager, i and four friends located such a mine by accident. We were camping in the area when one of us was trying to capture a snake which slid into the ground, after removing several rocks we found a hole which we enlarged by removing some rocks and then all of us crawled into the hole with flashlights . The hole became very large and we found ourselves in a large amphitheatre like cave. it was immense. there were old oil lamps , picks and shovels and some old diaries. None of us at the time were interested in the diaries at the time, but we took some of them with us when we went out of the cavern. This was in 1959.The one cavern led to another cavern which led to other caverns, in one of the caverns was a large cigar shaped home of some sort, problem was, there was no door to get in, the thing was covered with dirt. no windows,no wheels nothing. We saw dazzling lights or what looked like lights on the face of the rock, chipping off some of these rocks, each of us took some out of the cavern.after crawling out of the cavern,we covered up the hole by placing large boulders in the entrance. It was a great time to talk about what we found at our campsite. We promised each other that we would never tell anyone what we found and some day we would return. Unfortunately, for some of us, there will be no return, 2 of us died in viet nam. As far as i know, no one has ever returned to this cavern. However, a few days after our camping trip ended, we went to the Phoenix area and went to a rock and mineral store to show the proprietor what we had, and to our amazement, the owner bought from us the rocks that we showed him. $2 was alot of money back then, the owner gave us a total of $35 for what we had. We thought the rocks were fools gold, Today, I know better, the rocks were pure gold ore. I never really thought about the situation, but now that gold is $1250 and more an oz. i think its time that i returned to the cavern with a couple of generators and a winch.
As far as the diaries were concerned,we did read them, where they are now is probably in some dump. But as i remember what they said, some of the words referred to names that i have never heard of . Could this be the lost dutchmans mine, could be for all i know, but back then, when i was a kid, the legend was just that , a legend and as a kid, i didn't really care.
