The Mexican War
The Mexican War was not called for. The result was simply a product of America’s sorry excuse for a cause. What exactly were we thinking?
The war was not called for, as far as I am concerned. For what it’s worth, I could not agree less with the American cause, or rather “excuse” for the war. They did the most of evil things, and that was sacrificing lives and take what did not belong to them.
American soldiers, I couldn’t imagine what their worth were to the war hawks of that time period, lost their lives just for the sake of something as vain as Manifest Destiny. Sure, the idea sounds compelling, but it was short of a justifiable reason towards the hostility that took place.
Innocent lives were first put at stake when American soldiers were sent as bates. Eleven of whom marched their last, when the Mexican Governments rightfully sought to secure there inalienable lands. What difference would it have been to let the Nueces River pass as official border for the two? I could not imagine how that could have affected the United States and her economic interests and ideas of Romanticism.
Further, from an essay written by Miguel Quinoa, it is a popular belief that, in their endeavor to explain a strong logic in their reasons, they often contradicted themselves and what they are about. Even one of our greatest heroes in history, to think that he would side with the reason he would fight for, deemed that Americans were indeed at fault. Of course his opinions, although bias, has some sort of legitimacy, as he has had first-hand experience in the very same war.
At last, what greater good came from that war, except from what are evident today, but more evil and corruption? In the same American romantic ideal of boundlessness for the sake of freedom is a great contrary that freedom meant slavery and goodness oppression. Because as freedom spreads, so does slavery.
Although today many of us benefit, as Texas houses many of us, it is important not to let greed fog our great conscience. Although history is deemed to repeat itself, perhaps there are things that can be done differently. Let us all put an end to injustice, and let this War experience serve as a learning lesson.
