The Red River Rebellion

The Canadians have just bought Rupert’s Land from the Hudson Bay Co. from British encouragement.

A Handful of Trouble

Unfortunately, the people who live in the area disagree with this arrangement and had no say in the organization. Many of the Métis, Aboriginals and habitants grew enraged and demanded to resist. The west has been more troublesome when massacres of pointless things occurred. Macdonald and the government were not pleased and discussed more seriously on this matter.

Unexpected Move

On June of 1869, the Canadian surveyors that sent to the land were confronted by men of the Métis. The youngest of the group disposed of the stakes; the surveyors had put up and forced them back to Canada. The man that stood his ground firm against the “Whites” was Louis Riel. Soon Riel was the heading Red River Resistance.

After learning that the Métis rejected Canadians, Macdonald sent the surveyors back with a letter that Canada demands them to stay. The people had no choice but to continue their lives with them.

Hearing this, Riel and the NATIONAL COMMITTEE OF THE METIS created the Provisional Government to establish current rule before Canada gets the land legally that December.

Acts of Rebellion

Riel is forced to kill a man named Thomas Scott to control distress, disagreement and law to the Métis. This angered Canada and they sent out troops to deliver the Manitoba Act and defeat the trouble that was stirring in the settlement. Riel destroyed many lives and affected Canada a lot and he thought that the troops will kill him. He fled to the United States while Manitoba was being formed, and killing of Riel’s best friends, supporters and family.
