The Seven Wonders of The World
Article about the Worlds seven Wonders.
The seven wonders of the world or the so called seven wonders of the ancient world were a set of architectural works of the Hellenes, especially those of the Hellenistic period, considered worthy of being visited, being for them monuments of human engineering and creation. Of these. Only one, the great pyramid remains standing despite the intentions of re-build some of them. The classic list is based on a short poem by Antipater of Sidon (125BC) and Antipater of Thessalonoica (between 20BC and 20 AD) in which the poet praises the Seven Wonders of the World. This list originally mentioned the Ishtar Gate of Babylon instead of the Alexandria’s Lighthouse. Subsequent changes made such replacement, however, there are remains of other list with earlier references made by the historian Herodotus, or the engineer Philo of Byzantium, although his writings have not survived, excepts as references. In other listings their is no mention of Babylon Hanging Gardens but the walls of the city itself.
In the same way all of them are Human constructions and the Greeks could admire it contains no natural wonder and no ruins. In part that’s why we talk about the eight wonder of the world, the tower of Babel, the Ziggurat of Babylon but the buildings were in ruins when the Alexander the Great soldiers come and the list of wonders dated 200 years later. This additional possibility of another wonder, helped coin the phrase Eight Wonder of the World to nominate an exceptional human work that is ahead of it’s time or little known.
