The Story of Power
The people of the world have come a long way to becoming the most powerful creature on the planet. Did you know that we have only lived a little section of a timeline of Earth’s days? The age of dinosaurs started about 245 million years ago, and then went extinct 65 million years ago. So in truth, dinosaurs lived on for about 180 years. But we humans only started 10,000 years ago. How did we become so powerful? How did we figure out all these advanced technology in 10,000 years that dinosaurs failed to do in a 180 million years era? Nobody knows for sure, but we do know some of the most powerful people of helped the human era grow with technology so fast; some with their brains, some with their power, or some with the help of others who have brains or power.
In the article Newsweek, one of the cover story was called global elite by Jon Meacham. He tells us how Obama has arguably become the most powerful man in the world today, as he is now U.S.’s president-elect. Obama’s life also relates to another U.S.’s great president, Abraham Lincoln. They both started off as normal people in this life, dreamt of changing the world, and began to actually do it. Even though I’m pretty sure Newsweek is biased towards Obama, I still think Obama has a chance to do something great as the U.S.’s president if he actually does something huge that will change the way people think of the world, and of him. I believe it is only because of Bush’s huge “embarrassments” that people think so highly of Obama. But in truth, if Obama does as badly as Bush did… then he would be held at the same regard that Bush had.
Back then, the world power kept changing between several people at once…. It might’ve been Alexander the Great, then become napoleon, and suddenly Muhammad Gandhi. But having the new experience of having power in your hand is different for different people. As a famous person called Machiavelli once said, “There is nothing more difficult to carry out, nr more doubtful of success, nor more dangerous to handle, than a new order of things.” Ever since Plato, philosophers have been struggling to define the meaning of power, because in truth, it could mean a lot of things; control, the power to change, or even the power of life or death. Having the power to influence people is also a major thing when defining power. If you can get people on your side (strong ones, or powerful ones), then you basically have to force to change the world and how to the people in it believe.

Great article. I really think Obama will change our country. He is a very positive and charismatic person. Hopefully, he will fix health care and add more jobs. “Fire them up and Keep on Moving.” This is one of my favorite lines from Obama on his Labor Day picnic speech on CNN.
