The Technology of Computers
A description of how computers came to be and how they developed later in the century.
Computers: how did it start? Well, simple computers were invented around 65BC. At this time, people used a tool called the abacus. This abacus was used to count large numbers with ease instead of using their fingers. We still use the abacus today. Here is a picture of an abacus if you don’t know what it still looks like:
The first real computer was invented in 1950 by a man named Edmund Berkeley. His computer was called “Simon”. This early computer was only a computer processing machine but made a huge impact on technology itself. If this invention hadn’t been invented, we might not have the advanced computers we have today. Many people at the time of the first computer didn’t know what it was and so didn’t purchase it. Over time, computers evolved and people started purchasing them. Then eventually, computers started having more built into them like PC ports, and monitors were added to the computer so you could see what you were doing.
Over time, the technology of computers has changed. Programs were made for the computer and the internet was invented. At this time, many people knew about the computer and everyone wanted to get one. Around the mid “50s, people started to buy a computer; either an IBM, or an Apple.
If the computer was not invented, there would be many other things that we couldn”t do. For example: If you have a business meeting, instead of going to a business office, you can have the meeting on the computer. Many people rely on computers to help them type up documents for school or work. Imagine writing up all of your essays or assignments on a piece of paper and a pencil. Using a computer is much faster. Without computers, it would be harder to find information at home about something you want to know. A computer can help organize your daily schedule and keep track of important dates. If we didn’t have computers, our lives would be so much different.
