The Treaty of Versailles – The End of World War 1?

The Treaty of Versailles was written during the Paris Peace Conference. It was used to keep peace between all European Nations and to end World War 1. Many historians debate that it was actually the spark that started the next World War. Why? Because the tension built up due to the heavy unfairness of the treaty.

The Treaty of Versailles, the product of the Paris Peace Conference, was supposed to end all war and bring peace to all of the countries in Europe. Unfortunately, all it did was create more tension because it wasn’t fair at all. It was especially unfair to Germany because Germany had no say, lost all of its gained land, and was blamed for the war. This left Germany, one of the most powerful countries, at a disadvantage.
During the writing of the Treaty of Versailles, Germany had no representative. The United, France, Great Britain, and Italy were basically the only countries that were able to input their own opinions. All the other countries couldn’t speak for themselves and did not really help make any of the decisions. This made the Treaty of Versailles biased toward some countries and, in turn, made the treaty unfair. The fact that four of 32 countries made the treaty obviously skewed some of the viewpoints.
During the war, Germany gained lots of land. All of this land was lost due to the Treaty of Versailles. This is unfair because although Germany took this land during war, it took it fairly. Darwinism states that the fittest survive and in this case, Germany was the fittest. It took the land because both Russia and France were too weak to hold onto their land. The stolen areas were in better hands and both France and Russia couldn’t exhibit the ability to maintain their land. Therefore, the land should be rightfully Germany’s, but the Treaty of Versailles took it away.
Lastly, Germany was blamed for the war and was forced to pay for it. Germany did not start the war at all. The war started between Austria-Hungary and Serbia. Germany just defended the treaty that existed between it and Austria-Hungary. It was not fair that Germany was blamed just for following a contract. Not only was it blamed, but it also had to pay a huge debt to the Allies. Germany was a powerful nation that defended and attacked very efficiently, but that shouldn’t translate into owing other nations million of dollars.
Germany drew the short straw when it came to war. Although it was the best military power, besides the United States, it was treated poorly just because it lost. Germany deserved a lot more than what it received in the end. The Treaty of Versailles was not fair because it dealt a very large blow to one of the greatest countries of its time.
