Tiananmen Square Massacre: The Deadly Attack

Tiananmen square massacre, the deadly attack.

At 2am, the morning of the 4th of June 1989, tanks from the Chinese Government were sent to Tiananmen Square. The tanks were there, not to contain, neither to calm down, but kill hundreds of Chinese students, who were doing nothing more taking part of a calm, controlled protest. So why did dozens of tanks from the Chinese Military, under control from the government kill these people, who were technically doing nothing wrong? Was it a terrible mistake made by Communists, or the same ill feeling that comes from colonial times?

After the attack, the Chinese Government would not share why, in fact, they would not even release the smallest amount of information from Tiananmen to the Nation of China, In that case, any nation in the world.
After the attacks, the Chinese government has not spoken about the event to anyone. They have even gone as far as to block any related sites on Tiananmen Square to the Chinese Nation.

As a result to the Chinese no explaining anything, many theories, possibly hundreds have been raised from the western world. One of these is the impact on China from Colonial Times. China became a colony to the British after the Opium War in the 1700’s. The Chinese Emperor was proud, and went against trade. Many believed this was because the Emperor thought “China was already a perfect country, and did not need to trade to increase its greatness.” So, were the British just going to give up? The answer to that is no. The British seemed to have fallen in love with Chinese items, from silk to tea. To continue trade with China, the British “smuggled” opium into China, attempting to make them addicted, and dependant on the drug. This was a success, however, the Emperor was not happy and called for a war against the British. The British however, with a far more superior navy, dispatched of the Chinese with ease, and China had to surrender many southern Chinese cities. Including modern day Hong Kong. After this, the Chinese were treated like rubbish. And you could find examples of this like one sign in a Chinese park reading “No dogs, or Chinese.”

Back to China in the 70’s & 80’s, and the Chinese were given next to no freedom; the communists controlled China, and gave the Chinese citizens no say with what happened with the country. A lot like colonial times.

However, It is possible that the Communists were the reason the students were protesting, with nothing to do with colonial times.

The Communists in China were giving the citizens no choice with what happened to the country. And the Communist leader Mao Tse-Tung was ordering many strange requests of the people. It is believed the people of China had “Had enough” but no one was brave enough to stand up to might of the Communists.  Well, no one until the famous students of Tiananmen.

After Mao had died, Deng Xiaoping controlled China. He seemed to be an intelligent leader, however, he still followed many of Mao’s principles including the famous quote from Mao’s Book, “They sayings of Chairman Mao” who practically forced the Chinese people to read it, the Quote: “All Power flows from the barrel of a gun.” So Deng took tanks to Tiananmen Square, and shot the students.

Their will always be evidence for both sides of this disastrous mistake from the Chinese Government but we may never know why it happened. There is the possibility of the Chinese still feeling ill-treated by what happened to them in Colonial times, or The communism impact on China, and the Citizens feeling mistreated and unhappy about this. I believe it may have been both sides that impacted the people of China. The people of China felt mistreated from Colonial times, and felt they deserved better treatment, and that they were not happy with China being a communist country, and were sick of having no rights, and having a leader giving crazy requests.
Whatever the reason, The Tiananmen Square Massacre happened; no matter how much the Chinese Government attempts to deny it. Many people died, possibly from 200-1000 and will never get their lives back.
