Comparing the differences between Tibet and Shanghai
Tibet’s average land height above sea level is roughly around 4000 metres high which is why Tibet is called “the roof of the world”. Tibet covers 1.2 million kilometres of south west China in this land it has the Himalayas, surging rivers and lakes. Tibet has 6 mountain ranges with the Himalayas which is the youngest and tallest mountain range in the world. Mt. Everest is the tallest mountain in Tibet and the world and has spectacular glaciers and cloud formations forming around it. The main 5 rivers in Tibet are the Mekong, Yangtze, Salween, Tsangpo and the Yellow river. The main environmental problem in Tibet is the deforestation in eastern Tibet.
Shanghai
Shanghai is one of the main cities in China and is its own province and has a population of about 13.5 million people.
The housing in Tibet is generally much better then the housing in Tibet with proper substantial houses instead of primitive shelters and tents. Also more people in shanghai have central heating and electricity then the Tibetans. The lifestyle in Shanghai is definitely better than Tibet because it has central heating, T.V, decent housing, good food like these restaurants and more gadgets in nearly every house in Tibet.
There are lots of job opportunities in shanghai and lots of choice to which job you want. A lot of people from around shanghai commute into the city to get better jobs with higher salaries. Some people on the outskirts of the city have set up rice paddy’s and bring their produce into shanghai where it is sold usually for a higher price than if you sold it from your farm.
The climate of Shanghai is generally warmer than Tibet mainly because Tibet is much higher above sea level than shanghai. They say every 100m you go above sea level it gets one degree colder. So if it was 20 degrees Celsius in shanghai it would be -20 degrees in Tibet on its average height above sea level. The best time to visit Shanghai is in autumn when it is not too hot and when it doesn’t rain much. The average annual temperature for Shanghai is 15 degrees Celsius and also has an annual rainfall of 1000cm. From mid June to early July it rains an average 259mm a day.
The landscape of Shanghai is generally quite flat and has a few wetlands from the Yangtze River. And as you can see the locals are always very friendly!
To conclude Shanghai has better housing and better lifestyle than Tibet with its TV’s and electronic gadgets and decent sized houses. But Shanghai is lacking in culture and tradition. Tibet has a far colder climate than Shanghai due to the higher landscape but Shanghai beats Tibet in annual rainfall. Tibet has not quite fully modernized yet while Shanghai is one of the centers for the latest electronics. You’re more likely to get a well paid job in Shanghai. That’s why more people chose to live in Shanghai than Tibet.
