Tim Thomas Shows Real Courage

Tim Thomas shows real courage.

Tim Thomas exercised his democratic rights to freedom of expression and speech nowadays. no one was injured within the process; no one was even place in harm’s approach. however as a result of we tend to live during a digital age, and since everybody feels an entitlement to be outraged, it did not take long for the hate to spew.

The Boston Bruins created a visit to the White House nowadays where they were honoured during a special ceremony by President Barack Obama. each member of the team created the trip to D.C., apart from Thomas, who later wrote on his Facebook page that he skipped the event as the simplest way to voice his displeasure regarding what he feels is that the out-of-control size of the U.S. national. In his statement, he said he believed each the Republicans and Democrats are to blame for the present state of affairs he finds therefore distasteful.

Thomas could be a known Republican, and therefore the truth the sitting president could be a Democratic leads one to believe the target of today’s snub was the Prez himself. that is a logical conclusion. What is not acceptable, however, is that the mocking of Thomas by those that are comparing him to the way right, fear-mongering, anti-immigrant wing of the Republican Party. he is never gone on the record condemning immigrants, illegal or otherwise, for taking jobs from Americans, nonetheless that sentiment could be a in style punchline on Twitter nowadays. If through his words or actions Thomas leads us to believe he may well be a racist, then let’s have the discussion. Until then, maybe we are able to have a civilized conversation free from name-calling and private attacks.

I don’t agree in any respect with Thomas’ assessment that the U.S. government has spiralled out of management and is threatening its voters, however a part of me admires him for the courage he showed nowadays. He exposed himself to hate and mock so as to specific an opinion, as misguided because it may well be.

The other huge NHL news of the day was the three-game suspension handed to Alex Ovechkin for his hit on Pittsburgh’s Zbynek Michalek. Ovechkin took a healthy run at Michalek, left his feet, and drove his shoulder into Michalek’s head. it had been a unclean play by a player who encompasses a history of questionable hits. Yet, there is little or no outrage at the length of the suspension, or the actual fact that these low cost hits continue within the NHL on a weekly basis.

Lesson learned: it’s alright to drive an opponent’s head into the glass; it is not alright to have a political opinion if you are an NHL player.
