Treaties of Ww1

Brief main points on four of the major treaties of WW1.

Treaty of St Germain

The treaty of St Germain was signed on the 19th September 1919 at Château de Saint-Germain-en-Laye. The treaty was terms between the Allied forces and Austria. The main parts of the treaty were: compensation to pay for the cost of war. The Austro – Hungarian Empire to be dissolved meaning that they lost a lot of land which they had built up. And finally the restriction for the Austrian army to be of 30000 men.  Unfortunately the vast reduction of population, territory and resources of the new Austria relative to the old empire wreaked havoc on the economy of the old nation.

Treaty of Neuilly

The treaty of Neuilly was signed on the 27th November 1919 in Neuilly-sur-Seine in France. The treaty terms were between the allied forces and Bulgaria. The biggest impact in this treaty was the 2563 km² which was taken from Bulgaria’s land. Bulgaria was also required to reduce its army to 20000 men and pay compensation exceeding $400 million to the Allied forces. The treaty seemed slightly unreasonable seeming the amount Bulgaria did in WW1.

Treaty of Trianon

The treaty of Trianon was signed on the 4th June 1920. The treaty terms were between the Allied forces and the Kingdom of Hungary.

The treaty established the borders of Hungary. Hungary had  over 72% of the land it had previously controlled, which left 64% of the inhabitants living outside Hungary. The Hungarians saw this fair even for the amount of land, almost ¾, taken off them.

Treaty of Sèvres

The treaty of Sèvres was signed on the 10th August 1920. The treaty terms were between the Allied forces and the Ottoman Empire. They were given military restrictions of 50000 men. But worst of all was their territorial losses with only 17900 square miles at the end of the treaty beforehand being 613724 square miles.
