Trinity and Beyond the Atomic Bomb Movie was a terrific movie! The movie was very educational and showed amazing never before seen footage. Trinity and Beyond documented the evolution of a weapon that has devastating affects. This harmful weapon came to be known as the atomic bomb. The movie shows various experiments and interviews pertaining to the bomb.
The Atomic Bomb Movie describes how radioactivity can be used to create a bomb with an enormous explosion. The first bombs tested had yields of just a few kilotons while the later versions had yields of megatons. The first atomic bomb, Trinity, was built using uranium. As scientists further researched the fission of atoms, plutonium was found to be more effective. Japan attacked Pearle Harbor so the United States used atomic bombs to gain revenge. The atomic bombs dropped in Japan, called “Little Boy” and “Fat Man” killed a couple hundred thousand people. The death toll from the two bombs was so immense that researchers wanted to know more about the atomic bomb. Scientists conducted experiments in deserted areas. Animals were used to test the effects of the radiation. The explosions were so large that it caused the magnetic fields to be disrupted. Many countries didn’t want our atmosphere to be harmed by the radiation anymore so they devised a treaty. 100 countries signed this treaty agreeing to stop atmospheric testing of the atomic bomb.
While watching the movie I learned many things. I learned that the atomic bombs’ radiation harmed an area for extended periods of time. I thought radiation went away after a short period of time. Another thing I learned was that the first atomic bomb built was in the United States. This comes to show how advanced our sciences were in the mid-1900’s. Prior to watching the movie I also didn’t know that testing was done on animals. It is terrifying to know that innocent animals were harmed because people wanted to know the effects of radiation.
I don’t think researchers should have tested the atomic bombs on animals. Animals are living things and have the right to live just like us. I think that since tests were done using animals (that didn’t volunteer) then we should’ve also tested on people that didn’t volunteer. I understand that one might think testing on animals is vital. They might think this because without animal testing we wouldn’t know how humans would react to the radiation. They might also think testing on animals is essential because testing showed scientists how devastating the bomb was and urged them to stop constructing them.
Trinity and Beyond the Atomic Bomb Movie is a documentary everyone should watch. The movie gives much insight into the development of the atomic bomb. From 1945-1962 about 331 atomic bombs were tested. Uranium, plutonium, and hydrogen bombs were tested in the mid-1900’s. Hopefully scientists don’t discover any elements capable of creating an atomic bomb with a yield greater than those created in the 20th century. The Atomic Bomb Movie is an interesting way to learn about atomic bombs.
